I love my parents, I really honestly do! They are some of the best people I work with, next to their kids. Over the years we build great bonds. Sometimes though I really have to question what my parents were thinking. Here are two cases of that.
I
received a fax from a doctor’s office this morning. Telling me that a parent
would like her child evaluated for an IEP and exactly what I need to do to
accommodate this parent.
Funny
thing is.. Parent has already signed consent for me to test her son and I
called her Friday, left a message to schedule his initial conference to go over
test results.
I got
to talk to said parent today. When I give her the dates that we can meet
and we agree to the date. She says, Do I have to come to school for that?
I
recently had a parent email me requesting a case conference for her son. She
wanted to talk with his teachers as they didn’t know how to teach a child with
ADHD.
I set
the meeting up per parent request. The day before the conference at 4:00 the
parent sends me a 40 page book with the following request. Please pass this
along to teachers as I would like to discuss this book at the meeting the next
day.
So I sent the book to
the teachers explaining moms request. At the meeting, parent references only
one page of the book. Turns out her son wasn’t telling her everything like she
thought.
