When the morning starts off with the following email..
First, there are still errors in the document that need to be corrected - typos and spelling.
Secondly, the accommodations you've described are already done in the classroom. Molly needs more than what is done hence the need for an ALP. For example, I work with struggling students to provide extra examples when understanding of concepts is not picked up as quickly as others. Molly needs more than the examples I provide to all children, which is why it's listed as an accommodation. As the classroom teacher, my job is to meet the needs of all children, which includes differentiating for those that need challenged as well as those that need extra help. I simply cannot provide even more examples, reteaching, and teaching self monitoring to one child in the classroom; it's not feasible. Can you please help me understand why these are listed as the classroom teacher and not the resource teacher as well?
The only accommodation it appears the resource teacher is responsible for is pulling her to test in a small group. What support is the resource teacher expected to provide in the classroom? Along those same lines, if these accommodations are expected across all curriculum, then I need support in classes other than just math and reading. Those are two subjects out of seven.
I do not feel comfortable with this plan for Molly since the accommodations listed as my responsibility are not feasible.
I preface that this joy started with the following email yesterday..
Thank you for sending. My thoughts are below -
1. Will the grammar and spelling errors within the document be fixed before making it official? There are multiple, including the misspelling of Molly's name on one part.
2. Currently, Molly uses small group testing and tests read aloud for math only, but it does not designate that on this plan. Please advise.
3. Extra examples for Molly seem to me to be implemented by the resource teacher or aide in the room, so that the classroom teacher is responsible for the other students as well as Molly. Thoughts?
4. Teaching self monitoring skills seems to me to be implemented by the resource teacher or counselor. At what time should the classroom teacher be doing this? Is she being pulled from class? What resources are available for me to teach these if it is the classroom teacher's responsibility?
5. Pre teaching of content is currently being done by an outside tutor, not the classroom teacher. At what time should this be done? Is she being pulled from class? It seems to me that this should fall under the responsibility of the resource teacher. Thoughts?
I want to be sure I am able to implement the interventions I am responsible for as the classroom teacher.
I'm willing to help but sometimes I can't if you don't meet me halfway..
