Currently,
breakfast is such a fun time! Doors open at 8 for kids to come in. K-2 students
go to the elementary/ middle school cafe, 9-12 go to the high school cafeteria.
Everyone else gets breakfast from one of the places in the hallway where it is
set up maned by teachers and then head to their classroom. Nothing can go wrong
with this situation, right?? Sure!
Here
are two of my favorite moments, ironically given to me by staff members.
For
teachers that have breakfast in their classroom, they have laminated sheets
with student’s names and bar-codes on them. Teachers mark with dry eraser who
has eaten, they get sent back to the cafeteria and then the cafeteria staff
scans in all of the checked student names. Sheets are then returned to teachers
the next morning.
Pretty simple? So I thought. One morning, about 2/3 of the
way through breakfast one of the cafeteria workers comes walking up the hall.
She is a very nice lady, I see her every morning as she is setting out
breakfast. As she is walking up the hall, I notice that she is holding the
laminated scan sheets. (yes those scan sheets). She walks up to me and another
teacher standing at the cross hallway and asks… I found these, do you know what
I do with them?? Yes, they need to go to the teachers so they can mark them
off. She looks at us confused and walks away towards the office.
Another
morning, I am again standing
at my post making sure that kids were going where they needed to be. Two staff
members were down the hallway passing out breakfast. It was almost time for the
bell to ring so most kids had gotten breakfast by this point. The teachers ran
out of cereal packs to pass out, no kids were coming up at this point. So the
LA teacher assigned to this duty, comes up to me wheeling the table and milk
container. We ran out of cereal, what do I do? You take it all back to the
cafeteria.
